Dear Mr Doughty Thank you for your query concerning the copyright of the design on the reverse of the Gulf War medal which has been passed to me. The designs used on the Gulf War medal are Crown copyright – there is nothing unique about the design – the central design is the MOD emblem. I can’t see any issue with allowing you to use the overall design as it clearly is a worthy cause and you are not making any commercial use of it. However I will need to speak further with a colleague in the MOD when I return to my office on Wed before I can give you a definitive response but I will respond on either Wed or Thur to meet your deadline.
