Look out for this: Vincy Heat battling in Guadeloupe By Kenville Horne St.Vincent and the Grenadines National Football team “Vincy Heat” is currently in Guadeloupe battling for Caribbean football supremacy. The team arrived in Guadeloupe via Barbados and Martinique on Monday 6th. Technical Director of ‘Vincy Heat”, Keith Ollivierre told THE VINCENTIAN that following their arrival in the French speaking island, the team had a light training session in the morning, on the beach, and will be training in the afternoon at the game venue. Concerning the team chances of advancing to the finals, the Technical Director said “ it goes back to our main goal, trying to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup finals in 2015, so the investment in youngsters was crucial and we are looking ahead to world cup qualifiers. The contingent is very youthful and coachable and the coach is very much capable of handling the task, so our chances are pretty okay”. The national team is made up of Goal Keepers Dwaine Sandy and Winslow Mcdowald, Players;Azhino Solomon, Darren Hamlett, Emerald George, Jarrel Mc Master, Kevin Francis, Kyle Edwards, Oalex Anderson, Ronsil Badnock, Nazir Mc Burnette, Shorn Lowman, Roy Richards, Vasbert Ledger, Shemol Trimmingham, Tevin Slater, Myron Samuel, Shandel Samuel, and Cornelius Stewart who now plies his trade in Finland has also join up with the team. Additionally a six member management team comprising :Cornelius Huggins- Head Coach, Wesley “ Butu” Charles - Assistance Coach, Kevin Richards-Guy - Goal Keeper Coach, Otnel Douglas- Manager, Keith Ollivierre – Technical Director, and Dwight Roberts - Executive Member, forms part of the Vincentian unit. Vincy Heat is drawn into Group 9, which also includes Curacao, Martinique, and Guadeloupe. On Wednesday the national outfit took on host Guadeloupe in their first encounter. Today they will take on Curacao and on Sunday 12th they do battle against Martinique. The 2014 Caribbean Cup will be the 18th edition of the Caribbean Cup, an international football competition for national teams of member nations affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) of the CONCACAF region. The final competition stage (8 teams) is scheduled for 10–17 November in Jamaica. The top four teams qualify for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup automatically while the fifth place team will play a playoff match against the fifth place team from the 2014 Copa Centroamericana tournament. This is the first time that the two overall fifth-place teams will compete to qualify for the CONCACAF Gold Cup, previously five teams from Central America and four from the Caribbean have qualified for the Confederations competition. With such a mammoth task for a small nation, Ollivierre is appealing for support from all Vincentians “We need your support in moving Team SVG forward so join and rally around us”.
