Dear Neighbors - I want to share some information with you that we announced to the campus community earlier today. Effective Monday, December 1st, PC will prohibit any parking on the College-owned stretch of Huxley Ave. (Eaton St. to Ventura St.). We believe the elimination of parking will make Huxley Ave. safer for members of our college community as well as for any area residents who are traveling Huxley Ave. on foot, especially at night or during inclement weather when the visibility of both drivers and pedestrians may be impaired. We also believe that the elimination of street parking on this stretch of Huxley Ave., combined with designated areas for cabs and transportation vehicle drop-offs and pick-ups, will eliminate any double-parking issues such as the one that triggered the shooting incident which happened early Saturday morning, November 15th on the street. The large majority of the 25 or so vehicles that have been parked on this portion of Huxley Ave. are eligible to park on campus. Their owners may have been parking on Huxley Ave. because they have class in a building on campus that is closer to the street than it is to one of our designated parking areas. We are working with our undergraduate, graduate and continuing education students in an attempt to encourage them to park on campus. I dont believe that this new policy is going to cause an influx of new vehicles parked on neighborhood streets, but the truth is, I cant be certain of that. So I would ask, if you happen to live near campus and you notice a larger-than normal number of cars parking on your street after December 1st, please call my office (865-2775) to let me know. Thank you. I wish all of our neighbors a very Happy Thanksgiving.
