Dear Police Officer friends of mine, please listen to my appeal here! Let me say that I love and appreciate each one of you who serve in this capacity. Your job is immensely difficult, and seems to be increasingly so, in recent days. So, if you ever make a mistake like this while in the line of duty, please do us all a favor by 1) humbly and profusely apologizing on the spot 2) and by weeping with the terrified children while you hug them and tell them that you are sorry for traumatizing them and 3) going to visit with the family in the days ahead. Bring with you some gifts for the children to show your good will toward them. This will go a long way to show them that you, as an officer of the law are FOR them, not AGAINST them. If you dont do these things, you will not have to wonder why, in the future, some 17year old black youth has a chip on his shoulder against law enforcement officers in general. BTW, as a pastor, Ive made mistakes in dealing with people and Ive had to apologize for how Ive handled situations. We cannot control how people respond after weve done the right thing, but we must do the right thing regardless.
