Dear Rachael: I hope all is well with you and Ephantus - TopicsExpress

Dear Rachael: I hope all is well with you and Ephantus Film. I would like to call to your attention the Washington Fellowship exchange program that President Obama announced in June, part of the Young African Leaders Initiative, or YALI. In July of 2014, the U.S. government will send 500 young African leaders to the United States for leadership training and mentoring, and to interact with President Obama at a Presidential Summit in Washington, D.C. Leaders will attend U.S. universities for training in one of three areas: public management and administration; business and entrepreneurship; and civic leadership. Training in each of these sectors will focus on the skills young African leaders need to run better ministries, start and grow businesses, and serve their communities. The Washington Fellows’ U.S.-based training will only be the beginning of the United States’ long term investment in these young leaders. After the U.S. program, the Washington Fellowship will offer participants valuable access to opportunities in the private and public sectors in Africa. We are establishing partnerships with companies, government ministries, research institutions, regional organizations, and non-profit and community-based organizations across Africa to provide meaningful career opportunities for these young leaders. More information is available at youngafricanleaders.state.gov/washington-fellows/ and in the attached information sheet. The goal of my email is to ask that you use your social media network and other means to advise qualified Kenyan leaders about the Washington Fellowship exchange program and to encourage them to apply. I would be particularly grateful if you publicize the Washington Fellowship all around Kenya, as we are seeking a good geographic and gender balance of Kenyan participants. The Washington Fellowship application is open now online, and candidates can apply until January 27, 2014. irex.org/application/washington-fellowship-application-information Thank you for your assistance. All the best, and Happy New Year. Michael Michael N. Greenwald Counselor for Public Affairs U.S. Embassy, Nairobi
