Dear Salisbury Steak, We can’t keep seeing each other like this. I know in the beginning, the clandestine kitchen meetings were exciting. Nooners with the office door closed, hoping my co-workers didn’t catch your scent. It’s true, our relationship has been mercurial from the outset. Some days, you were scalding, and I would risk the searing scars just to have you. Others, it’s like your heart was ice. I feel like we both have some growing to do. I don’t even think you know who you really are. Are you flat meatloaf? Are you a mushy hamburger? Who can tell under all that gravy? As for me, I need a lunch I can take out once in a while. A lunch I can eat in restaurants. A lunch whose ingredients I can pronounce. Please know I wish you all the happiness in the world. I know you’ll find that perfect side dish.
