Dear Sisters, Brothers, and Friends of the Rinzai-ji Sangha, As many of you have already heard from Gento and Myoren, our beloved Joshu Sasaki Roshi passed away on the day before yesterday at 4:25 PM. The news arrived at Rinzai-ji during sesshin. We broke schedule to travel with others to the hospital and there chanted with Roshi for a last time. Like Roshi himself, the chanting was clear, powerful, and full of love. Details of time and place for funeral services will be announced within the next several days. In the meantime, and in a spirit that honors the memory of our departed teacher, a deep bow for your continuing practice and support.
