Dear car salespeople. Know your product. Inside out. Know your dealership. Inside out. Know your client base. Inside out. Study demographics. Study psychographics. Walk outside your comfort zone. Trust your gut. Confidence is everything. Learn how to smile without faking it. Learn how to be firm without coming off as a know-it-all. Understand the underrated benefits of give and take. These attributes may earn you repeat business and new business down the road. Simple questions should be answered truthfully and with relative ease. We already think youre probably lying. The old school mentality of trying to swindle someone into a deal doesnt work as well as it once may have. The internet has made the consumer smarter than they let on. Definitely smarter than you think you are. Did I mention know your product? It shouldnt take the slick trickery of being passed off to seven different people to seal the deal. This isnt an audition for a gang bang this is mental chess. Its the game of purchasing a vehicle and walking away satisfied instead of merely walking away. If your attitude is causing delusions of grandeur maybe an appointment with a doctor should be in your eminent future. Youve probably been taught that the customer needs to believe theyre number one when in actuality you and your team hold all the cards. Or do they? Unlearn. The customer will call you out. The most successful people in their respective fields get there via a multitude of ways but remain there due to one. The answer to that question is one you must earn.
