Dear fellow Teachers: I am wearing my 3-D sarcastic glasses - TopicsExpress

Dear fellow Teachers: I am wearing my 3-D sarcastic glasses today, so anything I say should not and can not be used against me... :) Are any of you frustrated with all the Educator Initiative acronyms of late, making our already challenging job, well, more challenging? EEP, PPG, PDP, SLO... WTF?!! In my opinion, defending my instructional competency via hard core data collection and an overwhelming number of hours entering said data documents into Teachscape is bureaucratic hurdle jumping. Maybe because I teach elementary art and am wondering what kind of pre-test I can give my kindergarteners so later I can prove in the Spring that I am doing my job. Then again, my coworkers look just as disheartened as I. I, like you, spend countless hours outside of my work day crafting innovative, current, State Standard approved, district mandated, tiered, multiple-curriculum related, culturally connected, fun, engaging lessons. One walk down the halls of my schools (yes, schools) shows I am doing my job, evidence of student outcome, and more. I welcome formal principal observations and feedback is gladly accepted and implemented... we are professionals, after all. But, I am dragging my proverbial heels with this years mandatory Educator Effectiveness System. Ive been in education long enough to know that these initiatives come and go. That may be why I am reluctant to drink the EES kool-aid. I feel compassion for the principals who have to oversee all this on top of an already crazy workload. Makes me wonder where the future of education is headed... What would make me a better teacher? How about an aide to help with my behaviorally challenged students so I can actually teach. Thats about as reflective as I can get today. Im too exhausted.
