Dear friends, I wrote "Special Dogs" after being thrown out of three international corporate stores and restaurants the first week my seizure alert dog was certified! I did not sue them for money I knew the ADA law was only 7 years old at that time and many needed to be made aware of what it meant! I also knew there were many coming behind me that may not feel like fighting! I was able to find an attorney that was interested in the cause of service dogs. He even joined the service dog listserv to learn all he could! In hindsight I am so glad I had the energy to fight back on behalf of all those that use service or therapy dogs today! Each time I see a sign in a window welcoming service dogs I grin! When I started the signs still said "seeing eye" dogs only. If you are living alone, have epilepsy or PTSD just to name a few, I highly recommend a dog. You do NOT have to spend a lot of money. You can get a puppy from your local shelter. The puppy will pick you as the ones that are sensitive to your vulnerabilities will feel it and respond to YOU! Your dog will need a basic obedience class. Your dog will become your most loyal companion, helper and friend! Both of mine saved my life so many times! Service Dogs Do Rock! Debbie M. Wilson
