Dear friends: It’s been four intense months of trying to bring an end to Sunder’s pain and suffering and even as we anxiously await the verdict, I think it’s important we shift our focus and help people who are creating solutions. Sunder has become a symbol of the pain and suffering of all captive elephants in India, and he represents the unfathomable emotional and physical torture that many more elephants’ are suffering, which is going unnoticed and unreported. The Southern state of Kerala has 21% of the 3000 captive elephants in India that are being exploited in the name of culture and religion. We believe if we can shed light on the plight of the elephants in this one state, by creating awareness we can empower people in Kerala, who are generally kind, and compassionate. Using this as a stepping stone, we can then create ripples across India and around the world and help alleviate the pain and suffering of captive elephants that deserve to be free. In this regard, award-winning journalist, and documentary film maker Sangita Iyer, born and raised in India, a contributing writer for The Huffington Post, with an impressive academic background in Biology (B. Sc.), Journalism and environmental communication (MA), has dedicated her life to nature and wildlife issues. And for the past 15 years she has been using the power of images, sounds and narratives to not only creating awareness but also empowering people to take conscious actions. And our team is very proud to support her latest initiative which comes at a perfect time! Sangita has launched For the Love of Elephants Indiegogo campaign, in its first phase --- a feature length documentary film in the making, “an exposè that reveals the dark side of Keralas glamorous cultural festivities that exploit captive elephants for profit, and uncovers the abhorrent torture these supremely gentle and intelligent animals suffer.” Sangita needs all our support and good wishes possible ... Please visit Sangita’s campaign here: https://indiegogo/projects/for-the-love-of-elephants/x/5053546 All of us at FSN believe, it’s now time to shift our focus on solutions, and move people towards hopefulness. And here’s an opportunity for you to become part of a hopeful solution in a movement that has tremendous potential, and has been endorsed by media executives and influential authors like Richard Louv. We ask that you please support her endeavors by contributing as little as $10 or as much as you can afford. This is the only way we can bring forth much needed change in India. Thank you for your generosity and compassion for the elephants. And from all of us at FSN we wish Sangita all the best, and we hope you will support her in helping alleviating the pain and suffering of Keralas captive elephants! https://indiegogo/projects/for-the-love-of-elephants/x/5053546 For the Love of Elephants indiegogo
