Dear friends and colleagues, I am pleased to update you, as members of the Global Partnership on Youth in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, on recent developments relevant to our collaboration: As many of you know, on 2-3 June we gathered in New York for the ECOSOC Youth Forum, which took place under the title “#Youth2015: Realizing the Future They Want”. The forum brought together UN member states representatives, youth delegates, representatives from national, regional and international youth-led and youth-focused organizations and networks and representatives from various UN agencies. If you missed it, you can revisit the Forum and watch the different sessions at the UN Web TV channel: webtv.un.org/ Session 1: Youth Employment - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 2: Reports from global and regional Youth Fora - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 3 - Advancing progress in Africa beyond 2015: A Youth Perspective - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 4 A - Youth: The Future They Want Beyond 2015 - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 4 B - Youth: The Future They Want Beyond 2015 - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 5 (Part 1) - Youth: The Future They Want Beyond 2015 – roadmap sessions - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 Session 5 (Part 2) - Youth: The Future They Want Beyond 2015 – roadmap sessions - ECOSOC Youth Forum 2014 The Forum provided a strategic opportunity to present the Global Youth Call: Prioritizing Youth in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, which reflects an emerging global consensus on concrete proposals for target areas on youth in the new development agenda. This Call, which has been a jointly elaborated by a team of UN Agencies and international youth organizations, synthesizes and consolidates the inputs provided by youth in the Crowdsourcing Platform on Youth in the Post-2015 Development Agenda, as well as the outcomes and findings from numerous global, regional and national consultations that have taken place over the past few years in the context of the Post-2015 processes. Within a very short span of time, the Global Youth Call has received endorsements from over 1000 youth organizations from over 140 countries around the world, as well as from major international youth networks and alliances and intergovernmental regional organizations (Please note that the full list of endorsing organizations is annexed to the Global Youth Call). Moreover, during the ECOSOC Youth Forum the Global Youth Call received resounding support from UN Member States. More specifically, the Call was positively welcomed by over 40 Member States, including the Group of Friends of Youth, as well as by the Co-Chair of the Open Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals, H.E. Ambassador Körösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary, during the above-mentioned Forum at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. I would like to congratulate all partners that came together around the Global Youth Call and extend my heartfelt thanks for your support and input to this initiative. Furthermore, I am pleased to inform you that young people actively engaged in the discussions at the ECOSOC Youth Forum, including within the thematic break-out sessions in which they identified concrete follow-up actions on how to take the Global Youth Call forward in the next months, as UN Member States continue their deliberations on the new development agenda. You have my continued commitment to carry the messages from the Call into the inter-governmental negotiations here in New York, but we will need your engagement in raising this issue more prominently in the minds of our world’s leaders. It starts with advocacy led by you, at local and grassroots levels, to convince national governments that the success of the next development agenda will hinge on concrete investments made to ensure that young peoples rights are safeguarded and their development needs are fulfilled. Only together can we ensure youth are adequately reflected in the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Moving forward, I urge you to continue lending your voice to the cause, through social media or via any platform at your disposal. We invite you to share and disseminate the messages of the Global Youth Call as widely as possible. Thank you, and lets together help move the youth agenda forward. With kind regards, Ahmad Alhendawi Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth
