Dear friends, family, and collaborators, dear former colleagues, co-workers, teachers, students, employees, and bosses, dear improperly-defined chatbots, and NSA-funded phrase-miners, I am writing with a personal update. Last month I left Klagenfurt, the small town in Austria that has been my principal base of operations for the last year and a half, and moved to Lisbon, Portugal. Since arriving, Ive been working on writing or editing half a dozen scientific papers and nine articles for a new encyclopaedia, as well as learning a new language, storyboards for a short animated film, and other forms of relaxation. Later this morning I’ll be taking up my first job since completing my PhD. It’s a short post as a visiting scholar, pursuing my research on radically improving the way that computerised devices treat people. Lisbon is a very interesting city and I’ll be posting about my experiences here over the next few months. You can expect to see photos, essays, comic strips, videos, and short stories, but you shouldnt expect to see them on Google+ or Facebook. I’ll still stop in from time to time to see what’s going on with geographically-distant friends and to link to things I want share. My actual content, though, is going to be located on my blog, my website, and my new youtube page.
