Dear friends, here it is, another long status! Please read it all before you watch the video below. I just finished watching an episode of this Indian show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstars - Episode 11 - 17-09-2010. I have never seen this show before, even though I had heard of it...similar to American Idol and the kind. This afternoon when I and Gautam spoke with my mother, she suggested we watch the TV show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs. We could not somehow open the 2015 episodes of the show, which may have just begun, but we found this single episode from 2010 and watched it, and we were completely taken by the young singers who all performed songs by the superb composer/singer, the best in our times of modern India, A. R. Rahman! He is considered a living Legend in India and rightly so. All his melodies, his composition, are unique and beautiful beyond words...he creates this magical blend between Indian melodies, including Indian classical music, and western melodies, that are all very original and authentic...no blind copies of established western music whatsoever! Each and every one of the young singers sang so well, each and every one of them, that even though this show is all about competition,( I do not know how the judges chose the best from them and do not want to know), they were all winners in my eyes, to my ears. They each have a unique voice, and are far better than Shreya Ghoshal, who is the darling, the super star, of todays India. I had tears in my eyes as I watched and listened, and thought to myself, this is what India is really about, a country whose music is so rich and there are so many incredible talents...they are not judged on how they look, or how well they can dance while singing, but judged on their sheer talent, their gifted voices, and the performances were real, free of gimmicks. It was so refreshing! Sighing...all of a sudden, I found myself wishing I was that young again, singing in front of real established musicians/composers/singers, who cared about talent and did not try to exploit, that I was disciplined and listened to my incredible mother, a unique fantastic classical singer herself, and really learned the Indian Classical way of singing from her, not just training my voice with vocalizations and some bhajans (devotional songs), which is all I had the patience to learn. For once, this old desire to sing like that again on stage, surged through me... But as the show ended, so did my desire...I am not that young any more...and such opportunities were not there when I was young with a desire to become a Bollywood play back singer, or a singer winning 10 Grammy Awards...LOL! I felt emotional while watching the show...but now, once again, I feel my calm self again. Please enjoy. There are no subtitles, the language is in Hindi, mixed with some English, the songs the contestants chose, all compositions of A.R. Rahman, are gems, and the singers themselves are all fantastic! I feel proud to present to you these songs from my birth country, India. https://youtube/watch?v=OM0-eE-vIec
