Dear lady at Lowes, I knew that bringing my autistic daughter - TopicsExpress

Dear lady at Lowes, I knew that bringing my autistic daughter into your store after a busy morning was going to be a risk. I knew that she had reached capacity for sensory overload and that a huge home improvement store was probably the last place on Earth that shed want to be. But alas, life doesnt always allow us the schedule wed like and so there we were, me asking for your help finding the item I needed while she soothed her frayed nerves by setting up her figurines on your outdoor furniture display. When you said, Oh, sure, follow me, you must have seen the look on my face as I realized that what we needed was not within view of the spot at which she had set up shop. You waited patiently as I helped her gather her guys and brought her with us to the aisle in which we needed to be. And as soon as you saw that we didnt have a cart (which we so obviously needed to carry our unwieldy items to the register), you looked at Brooke, who had set up her guys again on a nearby box and said with a merciful smile, You guys stay right here. Ill be back with a cart. And so it was that we managed a trip that might otherwise have been unmanageable. It is moments like this - moments when we are given the invaluable gifts of patience, generosity and grace - that give me hope for my girl. And for all of us. Thank you. Lowes Home Improvement
