Dear members, riders, spectators and sponsors We have now passed - TopicsExpress

Dear members, riders, spectators and sponsors We have now passed the winter solstice and the days are getting longer again, which means more riding time! It has been a good year for the club so far, having successfully staged three races (one a National) and our fourth race taking place on 12 July 2014 at our home track - Zone 7. Financially things have been a bit tight though. Our first race on 26 January 2014 grossed R44 515.00 but cost R45 931.26, resulting in a loss of R 1 416.26 for the club. Our second race on 23 February 2014 grossed R48 120.00 and cost R48044.45, turning a R75.00 profit. The third race on 10 May 2014 grossed R32 780.00 and cost R40 619.00, resulting in a R7 839.00 loss. We have learnt a few things from these events and financial results, including; 1 Staging races is an expensive exercise. Even with the benefit of Zone 7 generous contributions to track preparation and marshals meals (which he has sponsored thus far) and the kind contributions from various other sponsors, it still costs the club around R45 000.00 to stage a race. 2 In order to stage a race, we need to receive R17 752.00 before race day to cover the upfront costs of medics, marshals and transponders. The remaining expenses can be paid after the event (from gate takings and the like, if sufficient). 3 The only feasible way to raise the monies required upfront for medics, marshals and transponders is entry fees from riders. Working on a field of 70 to 75 entries (which we believe is achievable on a sustainable basis), we unfortunately need to increase the entry fees to R250.00 per rider. Unless we do so, we will be unable to raise the money needed to race. To incentivise riders to enter early, we will henceforth levy a R50 late entry fee (for entries on the day) and a R35 admin fee for riders who take out one day licences. Club one day licence will be R 200.00 and regional one day licence will be R 220.00 4 We have however also seen that, given the requisite support from riders and spectators, it is possible to break even (and even turn a profit - 23 Feb being a case in point). But it can only happen with the support of our memberss. 5 In order to be profitable, we need to attract more spectators - gate money is key. We appeal to our members and riders to please submit their entries early for our next race on 12 July 2014 to help us meet our target of at least 70 to 75 riders and ensure that we are able to afford to stage the event. I can assure you that the club and Johann and Clints team at Zone 7 are pulling out all the stops and that our next race will be a hum dinger. We invite you all to attend, whether as a rider or spectator, to enjoy the action. We are truly fortunate to have Zone 7 in Cape Town. Few places (if any) in our country have the benefit of such a quality track and facility and I am happy to tell you that a lot of work has been done to improve both this year. Come and enjoy for yourselves - the place is looking stunning and the riding will be exquisite! More information and entry forms go to Zone 7 website: zone7.co.za Kind regards Alan Newton (Chairman)
