Several weeks ago I posted notice that Judge Edwards had over $3.5 million dollars to provide jobs for at risk youth in the St. Louis Metropolitan area. (Oddly, we were actually meeting about the announcement at the moment Bob McCulloch was supposed to release the Grand jury decision.) I received a hand full of requests. Had Antonio Martin taken advantage of this program, he wouldnt have been in the store stealing a candy bar, the police wouldnt have been called and hed still be alive. No doubt our teens are sick of the harrassment, sick of the lack of opportunity, sick of being characterized and demonized in every form of media. But Im compelled to ask all those posting angry comments about this shooting and knew of the job opportunities how many teens did you reach out to and advise of the jobs. How many took even a moment to share the post? When we start taking responsibility for countering the wickedness in our criminal justice system, then and only then will it change.
