Dear nan; This weekend was all about you and your whakapapa. What a privlidge! I was honoured to be taken back down the river and to your homestead where we were welcomed with open arms. You were home and for the first time since your passing, i was happy to finally let you go because you were home. We hung your pic on the wall alongside granddad and in that moment.....life felt complete and i was happy for you. The 100 year old piano you spoke so fondly about was still in the house in your room........untouched for years. Your urupa overgrown but still clearly visible amongst the tall tress and shrubs of the wanganui river bank. The ride down the river was so beautiful and spiritually healing; i am so grateful for being apart of this journey before i leave.....i now i know my roots which are embedded deep within the wanganui river. You gave amazingly warm weather and everything fell into place. You reconnected me with my cousins and extended family and showed me the true meaning of the importance of whanau. You are the great annie marumaru that everyone loved and cherished and you are my nan! How blessed is my life to have had you apart of it for 24 years. You will continue to live on in myself and my children. You are finally at home nan and i couldnt be more happy for you. Thank you for always being so positive and encouraging me to strive for the best. I know you will be with me on wednesday.....love and think about you always. Your grand daughter Donna marie xoxo
