Dear people who write movies and TV shows: It is not necessary, - TopicsExpress

Dear people who write movies and TV shows: It is not necessary, accurate, or helpful to portray every single birth as a horrific, frightening, emergency event. A womans water does not always break while shes in a public place, and she does not always need to rush to the hospital as though her baby is about to fall out. Thats not how birth works. When a woman is in labor, she should not be confined to a bed. If she is moaning and groaning, she needs to MOVE her body. She doesnt need to sit helplessly immobile. When a woman is pushing, the most unhelpful position for her to be in is a favorite of yours-- on her back, feet in stirrups. Squatting or pushing on all fours is often (but not always) a more comfortable and efficient position. The consistency with which birth is portrayed this way in the media would lead a suspicious person to believe there is some kind of agenda to keep women afraid of birth. Please stop. P.S. Also, please use car seats correctly in your movies and television shows. Why is it a thing to always use car seats wrong??? Surely there is someone who can research this stuff??? Love, Kristen
