Dear subjects of the realm, I have come forth to share my direly sought wisdom yet again. A year of benevolent guidance has come to an end and tonight will mark the inception of my departure to Elysian Fields. If you were on a voyage across the sea, you would expect your captain to be competent within the art of sailing. If you were on the operation table, you would expect the holder of the knife to boast a skilful hand. In politics, however, the art of managing life itself, both of the individual and collective, is given to whoever wants it. Fortunately for you all, the general will is intrinsic to me and prosperity has been a result of my benevolent guidance. Yet, the present is nothing but a moment consuming another; inevitably, the present will always change. Tonight, therefore, there will be held elections for the coming years committee. If you have felt any discontent with the condition of the club over this year, no matter how unfounded your opinions are, tonight is the occasion for expressing such thoughts. It is through the election of your representatives that your collective will is going to have an outlet and an arbiter, and if your lethargy prevents you from engaging with it, you represent an encumbrance to the possible improvement of the club. We would thus encourage everyone to meet for the elections at 18.00 tonight in the Boat Club, to shape the future of the club.
