Death by: Ryan Sinnott (Disclaimer: If you dont appreciate different points of views dont read this) What happens when you die? What does the bible say? I believe when you die you are simply dead. I believe the bible literally to be true so what I am about to say is what I believe based on the bible. God said in Genesis 3:19 by the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return. we know this is true and have observed it whenever someone dies. what else does the bible say? Psalms 146:4 His spirit shall go forth, he shall return to his earth; in that very day all his thoughts shall perish. Also Ecclesiastes 9:5 for the living are conscious they will die but the dead are conscious of nothing at all. This leaves me to believe two things. when you die your body will break down and you have no consciousness. Jesus always referred to the dead as being a sleep. We can take comfort in this because we can know that whatever pain or suffering someone endured in life, they wont be suffering anymore when they die and they are at peace. This is probably where we get the term “Rest in peace” But when you die is that it? No! Jesus conquered death and made it possible for all who have died to live gain. Colossians 1:18 say Jesus was the first to be resurrected from the dead. We through Christ Jesus have the hope for a resurrection when we die. Now originally man was made to live forever as mentioned in Genesis chapter 2. God said man would only die if he eats from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. In Genesis chapter 5 Adam died. God said to Adam that when he died he would return to the ground. Notice how God never said he would go to a place called Heaven or Hell. Simply he would die and decompose. Now Satan lied and want us to believe that we will never die. Genesis 3:4 Satan said “you surly will not die” and people today still to this day think some how we live on even after we die. As we can see that the bible says when we die we are dead. Now back to that resurrection thing. Although we do die and are a sleep in death we can all receive a resurrection after the return of our King Christ Jesus. Now it is a popular belief that our loved ones who have died have somehow already received this resurrection and are watching down on us from Heaven. Now this sounds like a comforting thing but does the bible say that this is so. My intentions are not to tell you that your grandmother is not in heaven but I am simply trying to explain what I believe to be true. I believe that when someone dies they are a sleep in death and awaiting the promised resurrection through Christ Jesus. Any honest bible scholar will admit the resurrection takes place after the tribulations and the return of Jesus. This can only mean that no one has been resurrected yet. Also when I was growing up I was always told when you die you go to Heaven if you are good or Hell if you are bad. Before I actually read the bible I believed this to be true. The funny thing is when I read the bible I never saw any verse that mention anyone dying and going to Heaven. Even when Jesus died he didn’t go to Heaven. He was dead for 3 days and was resurrected and was on earth for 40 more days. After 40 days he ascended to Heaven. Other than that no where before Jesus going to Heaven did anyone go to Heaven. Yes Enoch and Elijah were taken by God but they couldn’t have gone to Heaven like Jesus because John 3:13 says No one has gone into Heaven except the one who came from Heaven Jesus. Again I believe that the bible is true and if it say NO ON EXCEPT JESUS has gone into Heaven I have to believe that’s true. The fact of the matter is after the return of Christ there will be a resurrection, some will be resurrected into Heaven and many will be resurrected on earth. Who is resurrected on earth and who is resurrected in Heaven? Well that’s a whole other conversation. Thanks for reading and Good night!
