"Debbie Rowe, the 54-year-old mother of Jackson’s two oldest children, told jurors in a downtown Los Angeles courtroom that the singer had a “very low tolerance for pain,” and that various doctors prescribed him painkillers such as Demerol, Dilaudid, Percodan and Vicodin. “His fear of pain was incredible,” she said. Rowe, testifying in the trial of Katherine Jackson’s negligence lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live, cried as she contended that doctors took advantage of the pop superstar, saying physicians were supposed to do no harm to patients, but “unfortunately, some of the doctors decided that when Michael was in pain” they would give him narcotics. She said Jackson trusted the advice he received from the physicians, who were treating him for ailments ranging from acne to lupus to a burn on the head he received while filming a Pepsi commercial in 1983. “He listened to the doctors,” she said, later telling jurors that her ex-husband “foolishly, foolishly trusted people.” Of the trio of doctors who were treating him, Rowe said, “They were competing” to care for him, leading to more prescription painkillers." -BX
