December 17, 2014: Topics for today 1. A light precipitation event possible tonight 2. Some slick spots on bridges and overpasses possible on Thursday morning 3. Another system may impact the region on Friday night and Saturday 4. An active weather pattern for the week of Christmas. A weak weather system moves into our region later tonight. This will spread some light precipitation in from the southwest. The precipitation will be a rain and snow mix early on and then change to snow or a mixture of light freezing rain and snow. Ground and road temperatures are fairly warm, low temperatures tonight should be mostly around 30 degrees, there is some dry air to overcome with this system, it is a quick moving system, and with it being a rain/snow mix leads me to believe that if any accumulation were to occur then it would be very light. Keep in mind that if temperatures do drop to around the 30 degree mark then bridges and overpasses can develop slick spots (even if other roadways do not). Whatever precipitation does move into the area tonight will come to an end by Thursday morning. Our much anticipated weekend system is still in the developmental stages. Yesterday I gave this system a 2 in 10 chance of impacting our region. Today I give that system a 3 in 10 chance of impacting our region. If the area of low pressure is far enough north then it will spread an area of rain and snow into our area Friday night and Saturday. What happens in our region will depend on the track of the area of low pressure. That is still a big question mark. Monitor updates. The week of Christmas should be an active week of weather with several chances for precipitation. Stay tuned for updates on that.
