December 2 An Awful Weapon But watch thou in all things, - TopicsExpress

December 2 An Awful Weapon But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry. 2 Timothy 4:5 As you know by now, one of my heroes of the faith is Robert Murray McCheyne. He made the following statement about those in ministry: “It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy minister is an awful weapon in the hand of God.” This quote was used of God, early on, to shape my Christian character. I noticed that many people were depending on their talents and skills in spiritual warfare. That’s the wrong thing to do. The simple truth is, when we live holy, allowing Jesus full reign in our lives, laying down our capabilities and picking up the Cross, then God has a weapon He can use against the enemy. McCheyne also noted: Ministers are standard-bearers. Satan aims his fiery darts at them. If he can only make you a covetous minister, a lover of pleasure, a lover of praise, or a lover of good eating, then he has ruined your ministry forever. “Ah!” he says, “Let him preach on [for] fifty years, he will never do me any harm.” Dear brother, cast yourself at the feet of Christ, implore His Spirit to make you a holy man. Take heed to yourself, and to your doctrine. Give yourself to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. If you do not pray, God will probably lay you aside from your ministry, to teach you to pray. Oh friend, don’t just read through this page. Let it soak in. Regardless of your ministerial position, you can be an awful weapon in God’s hand. Dog-ear this page. Refer back to it often. Make it your aim to be a weapon He has formed! 2 Chronicles 1; 1 John 1; Micah 7; Luke 16
