Deceptive headline. The report authors fail to even mention that their data tables actually find hydroelectricity to be the cheapest. Hydro is the best renewable, because it can deliver peak surges 24x365 at no extra cost. Unlike wind, hydro does not kill birds, in fact it provides habitats for their migration. Dams provide drought and flood mitigation, protect river bank health downstream, and allow more rivers to support fish migration (including up the dam wall with ladders and elevators, and down through fish-friendly turbines). Ironically, another UK news report today suggests that the UK mania for offshore wind generation will add 1000 pounds per year to household energy bills, because it doesnt work all the time, and supplying the gaps is extremely costly.
