Dedicated To Death-Part Two I look up from my drink and smile at my wife. Its been too long since Ive been able to enjoy a simple meal with my family. Ive been a very busy man. Hows work going? My daughter asks climbing into my lap. As well as can be expected. I answer glancing at my wife. Work hasnt been going so good. Every day more of us are killed and we still havent been able to identify the assassin L.O.D.E had working for them. Still, and its been nearly two years. My wife knows it all. My daughter knows nothing. But each day the threat to them both becomes larger. Im planning to retire. Tomorrow, Im going to call Jeremy and let him know that I want out. That the risk is too big for my family. And then Ill have time for a million more dinners with my family. Dessert? My wife asks standing. Of course, I smile. She disappears into the kitchen and I wait in the dining room with my daughter. I wait and wait but she doesnt return. Daddy, Maggie says, Why is mummy taking so long? Is the ice cream really heavy? I dont know. I tell her lifting her off my lap and standing, Maybe, Ill go help her carrying it. Stay here Maggie and dont make a noise. I walk into the kitchen cautiously and instantly see her. Her body is motionless, slumped against ground. I see the flash of silver a second before it flies towards me and manage to jump to the side. Please. I cry, Ill tell you anything. A figure steps out of the shadows, cloaked in black, their face covered with a mask. Their voice comes out distorted by the mask. Who are L.O.D.E and what do they want? Surely you know. I say among tears staring at my wifes corpse. You were hired by them, werent you. A sigh. Just answer the question old man. L.O.D.E, it stands for Light Of Day Eruption. I stammer, They, they steal light bulbs. Another sigh. Why?! I-I dont know. I stammer, But its not good. Im sorry. The figure says walking towards me. Please dont hurt my daughter. I say quickly, She knows nothing. The figure nods, The daughter wasnt on the list. She will be spared. Once again, Im sorry. Then the knife is plunged into my chest and my blood spreads across the kitchen tiles as I join my wifes body on the ground. To be continued... Destiny Scribe
