Dee Ann and I went to see the movie Noah last night. It was a huge disappointment. I give it two thumbs down. I expected a little Hollywood embellishment, but this one was over the top. In the movie, all the animals are mythical creatures that evolve into forms we know after the flood. The Ark is built by giant space alien rock creatures that are the souls of angels who have been abandoned by God. God is a mythical force and not the God of Noah. All the true believers are vegans, and only the heathen eat meat. In fact the vegan/PETA theme is stronger than the biblical story. I thought this would be a great episode of Star Wars if it was set on another planet. Especially since they had magic glowing rocks that they could dig up out of the ground. Click the magic rocks together and you have fire. They also had guns in this movie (yes, guns!) powered by the magic rocks. As a Christian and a Bible scholar, I do not embrace or welcome this movie. The only parallel it has to the biblical account is the names of the characters, an ark, and a flood. Oh, and did you know that Noah and his wife figured out how to drug all the animals so they would sleep the whole time? And did you know that Noah’s true mission was to kill all humans, and felt he was a complete failure when he did not kill his own family too? I missed that part in the Bible.
