Defense Counsel: Can you identify the Africans who collaborated with the white men? Mr. Wright: Judge I object. Judge: Sustained Defense Counsel: Dont you think the white men who carried the slaves were bad white men? Mr. Wright: How about this counsel, let’s say that today while we are in this courtroom someone breaks into your house and kills or kidnaps your family member, would you consider that person a bad person? Defense Counsel: Okay Mr. Wright you made your point, however, since you know the slave traders, why dont you ask them or their descendants for reparation? Mr. Wright: The question you just asked me is not relevant, simply because these captains represented their countries and they were sanctioned by the Catholic Church and the Popes of Europe. I could name a few companies in America, but, it is the governments that are culpable because they allowed this to happen. Defense Counsel: If that is the case, should we not hold the entire black race equally culpable for the participation of a few bad Africans? You have also alleged that the white men disrupted a thriving civilization, comparable to those of the West. If indeed Africa had thriving civilizations, it would have been impossible for a handful of Europeans to subjugate millions of Africans as slaves. As a matter of fact, we did Africa a favor by carrying some of you away as slaves and beginning to civilize you. Mr. Wright: Ooh boy, here we go again? You know counsel I should object; but, I refuse to dignify most of what you said with an answer because you just don’t get it, or you don’t want to get it; but I will start with the fact that the white man did us no favor; Africa is the most resourceful country on the planet and had we not been robbed of all our resource’s we would be the happiest people on the planet, nevertheless, I will address what you describe as the disruption of a thriving civilization. The latest scientific research points to the fact that all human beings are likely to have African ancestry. Africans great civilizations made an immense contribution to the world, which is still marveled at by people today. Ancient Egypt, which first developed over 5000 years ago, is one of the most notable of these civilizations and one of the first monarchies anywhere in the world. However even before the rise of this civilization, the earlier monarchy of Ta Seti was founded in Nubia, in which today is the Sudan. Egypt of the pharaohs is best known for its great monuments and feats of engineering (such as the Pyramids), but it also made great advances in many other fields too. The Egyptians produced early forms of paper and a written script. They developed the calendar too and made important contributions in various branches of mathematics, such as geometry and algebra, and it seems likely that they understood and perhaps invented the use of zero. They made important contributions in mechanics, philosophy, irrigation and architecture, the Egyptians understood the body’s dependence on the brain over 1000 years before the Greek scholar Democritus. Some historians now believe that ancient Egypt had an important influence on ancient Greece, and they point to the fact that Greek scholars such as Pythagoras and Archimedes studied in Egypt, and that the work of Aristotle and Plato was largely based on an earlier scholarship in Egypt. Judge: Id like to agree with you, but how was it they were deceived so easily? Mr. Wright: This is not about being deceived. This is about a gun to your head, simple as that. Judge: Okay, I can’t argue that because it does make sense. Defense Counsel: Mr. Wright, have you thought of asking the present generation of Africans whose forefathers supported and connived with the slave traders for reparation? Mr. Wright: Judge, I can’t take this any longer, I object to this line of questioning.
