Defying All Odds: Untold Stories of Malawian Orphans - Plight of A Country. PART A: My Grandmother My Hero Enifa (Not real name), a girl from Kapiri area in Mchinji district lost her parents when she was very young and largely been raised and educated by her only surviving relative, her grandmother. In 2009 Enifa wrote her PSLCE (primary school level) and was selected to pursue her secondary school at Mchinji Secondary School. Sadly Enifas granny could not afford her fees let alone her transport to school. With no one to help Enifa repeated Std 8 (equivalent of Grade 8)three times & each time she got selected to the same school except in 2012 a different school, Gandali community day School came up but Enifa refused (it was an underachievement for her) & more over no one could pay for her fees. One concerned villager saw Enifas plight and labourly sort transport to see the headteacher of Mchinji Sec. Xul. He narrated Enifas story to which the headmaster verified to be true. He went with the villager to see it for himself. The headmaster was touched by Enifas plight and offered himself to help her. When he offered to take her, Enifas granny took off her head cloth and told Enifa to use it as her bag because she had so little personal belongings. Nevertheless , the head sent th granny some food as a thank you. Today Enifa is in form three (Grade 11) at Lilongwe Girls Secondary School courtesy of the headmaster. Last JSCE (Grade 10 certificate) Enifa scooped straight As in all her subjects and first term in form three (Grade 11) she has been nothing but exceptional. Enifa met her angels, the ever-loving poor grandmother and the compassionate headmaster who adopted her as his daughter. Against all odds Enifa today is still standing with her audacious hope and belief. NEVER EVER GIVE UP. Someone is worse off than you but has never given up. If you can be an angel to someone today.
