Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart (Psalms 37:4) When one delights themselves in the Lord, (to obey Him, spend time with Him and to seek Him) it becomes a passionate desire rather than a burdensome task. It is in this place of enjoying the Lords fellowship and company, we come to desire what He desires. One of the greatest misinterpretations of this scripture is that God will give to us whatever our hearts may desire. But the tenure of scripture doesnt seem to agree with this interpretation (1 John 5:14,15). It appears that the Psalmist is conveying that when one delights themselves in the Lord, that unified oneness with the Lord will begin to produce HIS desires within our hearts rather than our selfishly motivated desires (John 17:21-24). He promises when we find friendship and companionship in Him (expressed in love and singleness of devotion), those desires that begin to surface within our hearts are the very ones HES put there. In other words, our delighting in Him inadvertently places His desires within us. When we pray according to THESE desires, the request will surely be granted (Pro 10:24). We might be uncertain about the timing of the petition, but we cab be sure of the granting of the petition (1 John 5:14,15). When we find delight in HIM, He places HIS desires within us.
