Deliver Me Matthew 6:13 and lead us not into temptation, but - TopicsExpress

Deliver Me Matthew 6:13 and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us As many of you know, since our marriage four years ago (almost) our journey has been laden with the peaks of joy and the depths of grief, as well. One of the most profound things God has been showing me is the “dance” that joy and grief tend to do with each other. As I listened to a sermon on the above passage today I was thinking about how I often don’t struggle with the big temptations we think of when we think of this world and sin. I struggle with the more grey areas of temptation. Things like doubt, fear, hopelessness and even anger over the life I wish God was giving me. We don’t really think of these things when we think of temptations, but perhaps they have more power over us. Do I really want God to “deliver” me from these things? Sometimes I think I’d rather hold onto doubt than live a life of faith. I’d prefer to cling to fear as opposed to live my life courageously. I sometimes don’t want to take the steps to pull myself out of depression because I’d choose to dig my heels in with the Lord and demand that he change something before I move forward. It’s like my life of faith becomes this inward negotiating with God. This kind of faith journey really doesn’t help us at all. What it does is limit the abundant life (Jo.10:10) that God has waiting for us. I don’t know about you, but I want the fullest life God has for me and I’m ready to be bold for the Lord, cast off the old self and move forward with the hope and faith that My God has this whole thing figured out. He knows what he’s doing in and through me so much more than I would if I were in the driver seat. I’m ready to let go of the proverbial wheel and let the Lord take over.
