Delta Death Dealers Week 1 Update Hello Delta Death Dealer Family and Friends! This post concludes Week 1 of Basic Combat Training (BCT) here at Fort Jackson. Your Soldier In Training (SIT) has taken the first step in becoming a proud U.S. Army Soldier. Thank you for entrusting us with this unique opportunity to teach, coach, and mentor your loved one. The transformation from civilian to Soldier is always amazing to see at the end of these 10 weeks and we hope to share with you the process along the way. Your SIT arrived to Delta Company on 04 AUG 14 after completing BCT Reception, where they inprocessed and received their initial issue of U.S. Army Uniforms and equipment. Your SIT was also issued a weapon which they will be responsible to maintain for the duration of their time here in Delta Company. The M16A2 Assault Rifle is a semi-automatic assault rifle. Your SIT will be trained on this weapon and will spend many days on the range learning the basics of rifle marksmanship before qualifying with it. The focus for this past week was placed on basic military skills. Your SIT has learned the basics of Military Drill and Ceremony (Platoon Formations, Facing Movements, and Marching while in a Formation). The first day was composed primarily of introductions to the Company Leadership and their platoon Drill Sergeants. Each SIT was formally counseled on what expectations are placed on them during training and how to best succeed while in BCT. The next few days were spent receiving information briefs covering a wide range of topics to include the basics of First Aid, Rifle Marksmanship, Finances, Wear and Appearance of the Uniform, and Military Customs and Courtesies. These classes will better prepare your SIT for success and help them understand why discipline is so important in the military. The major training event executed this week was Victory Tower. This training site is meant to instill confidence in each SIT as they must execute all obstacles including a 40 foot rappel off the tower. Prior to the culminating rappel, each SIT was instructed on how to properly tie their own swiss seat and then checked by certified cadre members to ensure each harness was safe for weight bearing. After their drill sergeants demonstrated how to successfully navigate each obstacle, the SITs were coached through the fundamentals of rappelling on the mini wall which is designed at an angle so as to prepare each SIT for the 40 foot vertical wall. The week ended with an Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) assessment. The standard APFT is composed of 2 minutes of Push-Ups, 2 minutes of Sit-Ups, and a 2 mile timed run. As we prepare each SIT for the full APFT, we needed to evaluate where we must start as a Company. Each SIT conducted 1 minute of Push-Ups, 1 minute of Sit-Ups and ran 1 timed mile. The scores will be reviewed and the Company First Sergeant will establish separate run groups for the company based on those results so that training can be specifically tailored to each group. At the End of Cycle APFT we expect a huge improvement across the Company. Next week, your SIT will learn the basics of Land Navigation and conduct their first Field Training Exercise which will teach them the basics of field tactics. More updates to follow then! Thank you for your continued support. ALS.
