Delta guber: Edevbie gets PDP backing 0 BY OUR REPORTER ON DECEMBER 8, 2014 COVER Today’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primaries in Delta State may record an upset, with the likely emergence of David Edevbie, a Harvard-trained Urhobo man, as the party’s flag bearer. With this, Delta North will lose out in the race for the successor of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan. Sources revealed that the choice of Edevbie, a former Commissioner of Finance and Economic Planning in the state and former Principal Secretary to the late President Umar Musa Yar’Adua, is a closely guarded secret of Governor Uduaghan and the party. His choice, it was also revealed, was sealed when aspirants from Delta North refused to pick a consensus candidate. According to feelers from the PDP hierarchy, Delta North and Central groups have closed ranks and will today line up behind Edevbie. While the Delta North aspirants couldn’t speak with one voice, the influential Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU) was able to persuade its five sons to step down for Edevbie. The former commissioner’s chances at today’s primaries may have further been boosted by the support of loyalists of Governor Emmanuel Udu aghan. A member of the inner caucus of the Delta State PDP stated: “It is unfortunate that despite the goodwill Delta North has enjoyed this far, all the candidates have stuck to their guns, refusing to pick one of theirs and queuing behind him. Right from the beginning, it was obvious that the other groups were more politically savvy than the candidates from Delta North.
