Demolition of Former Northampton Car Dealership Underway NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) — It’s a day many folks in Northampton have been waiting for — the demolition of the former Lia Honda dealership along King Street. “It doesn’t look that great for the community on King Street at all,” says Dan Vasquez of Northampton. “I think it’s about time, it needs to be demolished.” “It’s been vacant for 8 to 9 years, and in a way it would be nice to see it gone, but it could have been used at the same time,” adds Paul Czapienski who works at the nearby Foster Farrar True Value. As the building is reduced to rubble, the focus now shifts to what will go up in its place. Neighbors say problems with the site, such as contaminated soil, may slow progress. Regardless, they’re just excited something is being done. “It’s interesting seeing what comes in place of it too, you know,” says Vasquez. The building has been vacant since Lia Honda closed in 2005.
