Denise, WE DID IT! With 3,353 likes and 730 shares, you won 20 bikes and 20 helmets for Empowerment International’s mountain biking enrichment program from Specialized Latin America. Our mountain biking program is primarily designed to incentivize boys and girls to stay in school, but it also to allows them to see their country, access wilderness, build teamwork, and learn all the life lessons exercise and competition can offer (particularly important for girls in Nicaragua, who are not usually encouraged to do sports). We could not have done this without so many of you voting for us, and pushing for us. The response and support for this cause was astounding. From within the country of Nicaragua, our biking friends and other friends went door to door asking for ‘likes’. Outside of Nicaragua, we had the support of so many international friends, many who have a personal connection with us. We are so grateful for your efforts on our behalf to give children in Nicaragua a better lives and new opportunities. While we won 20 bikes, we won even more. We won because we saw what our friends and supporters are made of. We saw you all working for the same cause. We won because this was something each of our staff could participate in. We won because the kids were able to help too (yes, we unblocked the computers and told them to get on Facebook and look for votes!). We won because we made new friends. Most of all we won because we feel supported by a community that is both local to us in Nicaragua yet encompasses more than 12 other countries. As our operation director Miguel Salazar rejoiced, “Nothing in this world is impossible, when hearts and minds are put towards a cause”.
