Department of Science and Technology has invited applications for the ‘Scholarship for Higher Education (SHE)’, a component of Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (INSPIRE)’ for 2013. A total of 10,000 scholarships are given annually under SHE. Applicant should have passed Class XII in 2013 from any one of the recognized Indian State or Central Boards and should be studying a three-year course in Natural/ Basic Sciences such as 3-year B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons) or 4-year B.S or 5-year integrated M.Sc./M.S programs in any recognized College/ University/ Institution in India. The Scheme in its current format does not include courses in engineering, medicine, technology and other professional or technical or applied science courses. Those who have passed Class 12 examination in previous years are not eligible to apply now. Each selected scholar will get a scholarship having a value of Rs.80,000/-, annually. The amount of scholarship payable in cash to the SHE scholarship holder is Rs.60,000 per annum. The remaining amount of Rs.20,000/- will be paid for undertaking summer time research project. Selected candidates will get the scholarship for a maximum of five years starting from 1styear course in B.Sc., B.Sc. (Hons), BS and Integrated course leading to M.S or M.Sc or till completion of the course, whichever is earlier. Continuation of the scholarship for selected candidates will be based on performance in the examinations conducted and certified by the institution imparting education. To be eligible for applying for the scholarship, a student should have come in the top 1% students in the State or Central Board Examination for the year 2013 at Class XII level or should have come within a specified rank range in one of the identified national level entrance examination or should be recipient of specified scholarships/medals etc. The cut-off mark to be included in the top 1% of each Board examination, for 2013, will be finalized later after receipt of actual data from respective Boards. The top 1% cut-off of 2012 of various Boards is as follows (Name of the Board and the Cut-off Mark). Andhra Pradesh (95.7) ; Assam (77.6); Bihar (75.4); Chhattisgarh (79); Goa (84.7); Gujarat (87.6); Haryana (88.6); Himachal Pradesh (83.4); Jammu & Kashmir (88.8); Jharkhand (65); Karnataka (90.5); Kerala (94.4); Madhya Pradesh (87.2); Maharashtra (84.2); Manipur (81); Meghalaya (69.4); Mizoram (71.6); Nagaland (70.2); Orissa (76.7); Punjab (84); Rajasthan (81); Tamil Nadu (95.5); Tripura (71); Uttar Pradesh (78.4); Uttarakhand (71.2); West Bengal (82.6); CBSE (94.2); ICSE (94.2); Viswa-Bharathi (98.8); AMU Board (87). So a candidate in the concerned board, scoring marks equal or above the cut-off for the board was eligible to apply for the scholarship in 2012.This is given for guidelines purpose only. In respect of the National Level Competitive Examinations coming under the purview of eligibility, those who are in the top 10,000 Ranks as per Common Merit List (CML) of JEE (Main), top 10,000 Ranks as per Common Merit List (CML) of JEE (Advanced), top 10,000 Ranks as per Common Merit List (CML) of NEET for Medical are eligible. In respect of eligibility based on scholarships, all Kishore VaigyanikProtsahanYojna (KVPY) Fellows, National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) Scholars, International Olympiad Medalists and Jagadis Bose National Science Talent Search (JBNSTS) Scholars are eligible to apply for SHE. Other National Level Competitive Examinations fixed as eligibility for SHE include those for Admission into (i) 4 years BS or 5 years Integrated M.Sc. programs in Basic & Natural Sciences at all Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) within top 10,000 rank in JEE (Advanced) (ii) All Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISERs) (iii) National Institute of Science Education & Research (NISER) (iv) Department of Atomic Energy - Centre for Basic Science (DAE - CBS) (v) University at Under-graduate or Integrated M. Sc. program in Natural Sciences and Basic Sciences. The eligible candidate must have been enrolled into a valid degree level course in natural / basic sciences within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship at any recognized College or University or Institute in India. The following subjects under Basic and Natural Sciences are within the scope of INSPIRE Scholarship for pursuing BSc. /BS/Integrated MSc/Integrated MS course: (1) Physics, (2) Chemistry, (3) Mathematics, (4) Biology, (5) Statistics, (6) Geology, (7) Astrophysics, (8) Astronomy, (9) Electronics, (10) Botany, (11) Zoology, (12) Bio-chemistry, (13) Anthropology, (14) Microbiology, (15) Geophysics, (16) Geochemistry, (17) Atmospheric Sciences & (18) Oceanic Sciences. Receipt of Eligibility Note or Eligibility Certificate on INSPIRE Scholarship from respective Board is not mandatory as an eligibility criteria to apply and also do not guarantee the Scholarship. The selection will be subjected to evaluation of each application based on the eligibility criteria including finalization of actual top 1% cut-off of Class 12 examination 2013 for each Board. In case more than 10,000 eligible applications are received in the given year, the selection will be on the basis of Board inclusive model within the available number of Scholarships in that year. Application can be submitted either off-line or on-line. Submission of On-line application would be preferred. Online application can be submitted at online-inspire.gov.in, following the procedure prescribed therein. The facility for On-line application will be available till 30th November 2013. Those applying online will have to first register at the website. During registration, the student is expected to fill in his/her valid e-mail, name as mentioned in the Class XII Mark Sheet, Date of Birth and Verification Code (CAPTCHA) and then, click the ‘SUBMIT’ button. After successful registration, a pop up shall appear with a message that the user id and password has been sent to the registered email id of the applicant. Applicant should open his/her email and click the activation link provided therein and activate his/her account. The second step involves the scanning and storing of the documents mentioned as separate files which are to be up-loaded as required during the ‘On-line Application’ process. The document, the format of the file and the maximum size of each are specified. (i) Passport size photograph; JPEG; 50 KB (ii) Community/Caste Certificate (only if the applicant belongs toOBC/SC/ST); PDF; 1 MB (iii) Eligibility Note/Advisory Note if provided by the State/Central Board; PDF; 1 MB (iv) Class XII Mark sheet; PDF; 1 MB (v) Class X Mark sheet or Certificate (for proof of Date of Birth); PDF; 1 MB (vi) Certificate specifying Rank or Award in JEE (Main)/ JEE (Advanced)/ NEET/ KVPY /JBNSTS/ NTSE/ International Olympic Medallists [If the candidate is eligible under this criteria]; PDF; 1 MB (vii) Endorsement Form signed by the Principal of the College/Director of the Institute/Registrar of the University; PDF; 1 MB (viii) Any other supporting documents PDF 1 MB In the third stage, the online application is to be submitted. For this, the applicant has to login to the portal by entering the registered email id as user name and the registered password. A screen will appear where the applicant has to click ‘Scholarship’ link. After clicking on ‘Scholarship’ link, applicant should click the button ‘Apply for Scholarship’. The fields are to be filled one by one by clicking the EDIT button. Applicant will be prompted to upload scanned documents at appropriate stages. Once the data are entered, the applicant will have to check the declaration button and enter place, date and verification code (CAPTCHA). Finally, the applicant has to ‘Submit’ the application. Applicant should ensure that all the particulars provided are correct, before clicking the ‘submit’ button. The details entered can be viewed by clicking the ‘PRINT PREVIEW’ button. Applicant will not be able to Edit/Modify the application once the ‘Submit’ button is clicked. On clicking the ‘submit’ button, a page will appear mentioning that the application has been submitted successfully. A reference number will also be mentioned which shall be used for future communications if any.If any applicant does not ‘submit’ his/her application form, it will be rejected as incomplete application. Applicant should take a print out of the submitted application. One can view the status of the application by entering the Application Reference Number in the portal. All applicants selected for the INSPIRE Scholarship will be informed by an Email notification sent to the registered Email id. Format of the offline application may be downloaded from inspire-dst.gov.in/Inspire-Advertisement.pdf Off-line applications and the print out of the submitted On-line application along with all necessary documents mentioned in the notification, which include Passport size photograph along with signature of the applicant, 12th class Mark-sheet, 10th class Certificate, 12th Board Eligibility Note (if Received from respective Board, not mandatory), Rank certificate of Competitive Examinations (if applicable), Endorsement Form (as per Format), any other supporting documents, must reach ‘The Director, National Institute of Science, Technology & Development Studies (NISTADS), Dr K S Krishnan Marg, New Delhi-110012’by ordinary post only, latest by 9th December 2013, in an envelope superscribed, ‘Application for INSPIRE Scholarship for 2013’.
