Despite peace rhetoric, battles continue in northern Shan State By KLN Saturday, July 27, 2013 Despite the ongoing peace rhetoric, Burmese army continues its offensive operations in Kachin, Palaung and Shan areas in northern Shan State. A series of battles took place between ethnic armies and Burmese army in the fourth week of July as Burmese army troops launched several attacks on frontline posts and invaded areas controlled by KIA, SSA(S) and TNLA. A battle took place between KIA troops from 2nd Battalion, 4th Brigade and about 60 Burmese army troops from 129th Light Infantry Regiment near Mung Paw in northern Shan State on July 26 at 3 pm. On July 25, KIA’s 2nd Battalion troops fought against another column of Burmese army’s 129th LIR troops between Ban Tik and Sai Hkau village in northern Shan State between 1 pm and 2 pm.
