Despots in Belgrade and Brussels consider flying an Albanian flag an unacceptable provocation of violence. They know this is nonsense. But theyd rather attack then defend. After all, itd be much harder to defend the apartheid that Putins European allies continue to enforce against the Albanian people. Albanians in Macedonia are treated as second-class citizens. Kosovo is being forced to concede much of its sovereignty to Serbia in EU-mediated talks. For decades now, Belgrade has kept Kosovo Albanian athletes out of international competitions. The Albanian national team has recently made up for some (but only a part) of the damage that Kosovo has suffered. But that was enough to provoke the Serbs. It wasnt the flag, it was the Albanians by their mere presence in the field who triggered the violence.
