Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the suspicious death of a 17-year-old boy in Kingsbridge in the early hours of this morning. Police and ambulance crews were called to Prince of Wales Road at 2.20am on Sunday 6 July following reports that the teenager had been injured during an altercation involving people at the taxi rank. On arrival they found the boy, from the Kingsbridge area, had sustained serious injuries. Members of the public went to the aid of the boy and commenced CPR before paramedics arrived. He was taken to Derriford Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. A 42-year-old man from the Kingsbridge area was located by police in Fore Street in the town at 9.40am and arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody at Torquay police station. Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Team have launched a murder enquiry to establish the circumstances of the boy’s death. Officers are speaking to a number of potential witnesses as part of the investigation and appealing for anyone who may have information to contact police. Detective Inspector Ian Ringrose said: “We believe there were a lot of people in the area at the time of this incident. I would ask anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events before and after, to contact the police. “The police are working closely with the victim’s family to provide support at this difficult time.” A cordon remains in place around the scene while a forensic examination is carried out and house-to-house enquiries are being conducted in Kingsbridge. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to assist with the investigation is asked to telephone police on 101, quoting long number 194 of 06/07/14.
