Devotion: “Undying Commitment ” Do you remember your first crush? You were so much in love and just knew it would last forever. For many of us this was heartbreaking to find out the one who said they loved us with all their heart, really didn’t. I wonder how God feels when our “undying Commitment” dies. A college man walked into a photography studio with a framed picture of his girlfriend. He wanted the picture duplicated. This involved removing it from the frame. In doing this, the studio owner noticed the inscription on the back of the photograph: “My dearest Tom, I love you with all my heart. I love you more and more each day. I will love you forever and ever. I am yours for all eternity.” It was signed Helen, and it contained a P.S.: “If we ever break up, I want this picture back.” Helen was obviously no completely committed to that relationship. Here’s my question for each of us, today. “How committed am I to my relationship with Christ?” Ruth was a young woman who understood total commitment. God also loves commitment. That’s why He included Ruth’s statement to her mother-in-law in your Bible: Ruth 1:16-17 NIV – “16 But Ruth replied, Dont urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. (Please don’t make me go away) Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. 17 Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the LORD deal with me, be it ever so severely, if even death separates you and me.” (parentheses are mine) That’s the kind of commitment God admires – undying commitment. “God please don’t let me drift away…”
