Did a little calculation when Ford announced it was going home. I figured that the sort of federal government money needed to keep the Geelong plant going would be much less than the cost of unemployment benefits, miserable as they are. I guess our current government prefers people to be treated as needy poor rather than keep them dignified workers. Not that I believe that the politicians that like to call themselves Labour (who have reduced the Light On The Hill to a spluttering, guttering candle stub) would do much different.
