Did that seriously just happen? Is this a dream?! How is it that I picked up a class of 27 sixth grade boys from lunch who were rowdy, off task, and looking to derail a classroom, but yet ALL of them managed to get back on track?! I had to completely reset the entire class... I had to whip out one very FIRM teacher voice. Didnt know I had it in me... I had to set VERY clear expectations, and dump tons of positive praise on students doing the right thing. And.... IT WORKED!!! Those boys, all 27 were not only on task but they were ENGAGED! They were ENGAGED, they were ENGAGED, they were ENGAGED!!!!! That alone is one hell of a victory!!!! I feel overwhelmed with pure joy, literally!!! I really believe Teach for America has given me a toolkit that is incredibly effective, and for that I am truly grateful! This week has been so draining (our first week teaching content). Ive been putting in well over 12 hours of work per day, but these victories are incredible! I hope I never take for granted these victories, as small as they might be, they truly bring me joy! Oh my sweet baby Jesus!!!!!
