Did you know that starting the morning off with God is the key to strength and success in your day? MORNING OFFERING DECEMBER 29, 2014 The human soul has so much likeness to God its creator that I surely know of no other way by which one can more easily mount to a knowledge of God than from reflection on ones own soul. — St. Robert Bellarmine MEDITATION OF THE DAY Since we are all one in Christ, we must maintain fraternal charity, which binds us together in peace, and work in harmony for the common good. We are all members of Christ, reborn in baptism by the grace of the Holy Spirit, redeemed by the Passion of Christ, cleansed by the blood of Christ, and nourished by the body of Christ. Furthermore, we are instructed by the words of Christ, confirmed by the miracles of Christ, and guided by the examples of Christ. My brothers, why then would you wish to hurt one another? Whoever injures another, by word or deed, also offends Christ, who will avenge and punish the evil done unless the guilty one quickly amends his ways. — Thomas à Kempis, p. 64 SAINT OF THE DAY St. Thomas Becket Saint Thomas Becket (1118-1170) was the son of a prosperous London merchant. He was a well-educated youth and was appointed as clerk to the Archbishop of Canterbury. In this role he met and became close friends with King Henry II, and the king made Becket his chancellor. When the Archbishop of Canterbury died, the king made Becket the new Archbishop, the most powerful ecclesiastical position in England. King Henry II supposed that having his friend in such a position would enable him to enforce his will on the Church. However, Thomas Becket transferred his ultimate allegiance to the Church. The king and the archbishop frequently conflicted, resulting in Beckets exile. When he returned to England, he was murdered by four knights at the altar in the Canterbury Cathedral on December 29, 1170. St. Thomas Beckets feast day is December 29th. . MORNING OFFERING PRAYERS O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart, in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world, for the salvation of souls, the reparation of sins, the reunion of all Christians, and in particular for the intentions of the Holy Father this month. Amen. PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL, THE ARCHANGEL St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen. PSALM 19:14 PRAYER Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Amen. YOU MAKE IT A GREAT DAY ST. VITUS FAMILY!
