Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? Laid out flat, - TopicsExpress

Did you know that your skin is your largest organ? Laid out flat, it covers 22 square feet! Our skin forms the barrier between what’s inside, and what’s out. What can you do to make sure your largest organ maintains optimal health? We’re going to tell you! With The Derm Bar MD’s multi-tiered skin care treatment therapies available, there’s no reason you shouldn’t put your best face forward. Here’s a breakdown, of one of the biggest skin boo-boos we make on a daily basis: You don’t wear your sunscreen EVERY SINGLE DAY! Most of us feel that applying sunscreen is only truly necessary on days where the sun shines bright. Knowing that your skin is your greatest protector, you want to make sure you keep it that way. We assimilate bad “fun in the sun” experiences with ‘burning’, but truth be told, UVA(long), UVB(medium) rays can penetrate even the grayest, gloomiest days. You only apply sunscreen to your face, ONCE a day: Your face is your trademark; your presentation to the world from your glorious creator. But how can you expect to keep it looking good as new, if you don’t treat it as such. Imagine, when you were a child, your mom and dad made sure that you were constantly protected from every day environmental stressors, i.e, sensitive face +body washes, highest grade/quality waterproof sunscreen, and keeping you out of the sun for too long. So, what makes us any different now? As you age, so does the sun, so every year its rays are longer and stronger. Full body protection is always recommended. The sun is out, it’s a gorgeous 83 degrees out, and you’re driving down PCH with your windows open, arm hanging out, sun roof open…and you only put sunscreen on your face…shoulders, neck (front and back), chest and ARMS are crucial. Also, remember that the tops of the feet, the back of the hands, and the back of the knees are the most commonly under-protected or forgotten areas. Your skin is olive based and you don’t burn. So YOU don’t need protection: WRONG! Just like everyone else, white, black, brown, or yellow, you need as much coverage as you can get. You can still get your glowing olive tone all year round, but minus the skin cancer. There’s no such thing as the right or wrong sun-protection, as long as you have enough. The standard for sunscreens is typically SPF (sun protection factor) 15, 30, and sometimes 45. There isn’t a HUGE difference in the amount of protection; it’s really about the time of protected coverage. Reapplication is the most common sunscreen faux pas, especially if you’re gonna get wet. There is a great broad spectrum sun protector available for every different skin type and color. Wearing make-up with SPF – So you wear mineral make-up. You think this is the best thing you can do for your skin right? And it even has SPF already built in?!?! 2 for 1? Think again. Mineral make up is great for layering coverage, and does have its own natural UV protection factor, but it’s not nearly enough! There is a great selection of sun protection specifically designed to make sure your make up looks perfect every day! Prevent, Protect, and GET CHECKED! 99% of skin cancer patients survive with early detection. But maybe this little tidbit will light that fire – 1 person in the United States DIES every hour from melanoma. youtu.be/o9BqrSAHbTc
