Dinkys Diary: Dinky visited a very special lady today. He has visited her bedside on prior visits, but today she was different. She had a bright smile on her face when she called Dinky to her and as she was lowering her hospital bed, she was cooing and talking to him, telling him what a good boy he was being. When she got down to his height, she reached out and stroked his face and said to us, Dinky is such a blessing. Im always happier when he comes to visit. I dont have any family anymore, no brothers or sisters, no children, my parents are both gone and last year I lost my husband of 47 years. I asked if she had any pets and she said no, so I suggested that when she went home that she might need a pet to keep her company. She said, Oh honey, Ill never leave here alive, most of my body is paralyzed. A year and half ago I had surgery and a lot of chemo for a brain tumor. The doctor told me then that I only had a couple of months to live. And here I am now with another tumor, but this one is not operable. It wasnt my time to go then and its not my time now. I still have a mission to complete. As she continued to stroke Dinkys face and chin, I asked her what her mission was and she said that it was to take care of her 98-year-old roommate, who was the same age of her mother, had she lived, and didnt have any family either. I told her how sorry we were to hear of all of her losses and her condition. She looked up, smiled brightly, and said, It could be a lot worse. I could be somewhere that Dinky doesnt visit. I was humbled. We look forward to visiting her again and seeing her smiling face.
