Direct Dial The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Man should call upon Allah alone to provide for all his needs, so much so that even if a shoe-lace is broken, he should pray to Allah to provide a shoe-lace, and if he needs salt, he should beseech Allah to send it to him.” [Tirmidhi] Once upon a time there was a hard working farmer. He would wake up each day at the crack of dawn, have breakfast with his family and then go to the fields. He tilled the soil and watered the crops with water from his well. He had planted many fruits and vegetables too. Some would feed his family and some he would sell to buy whatever else his family needed. One day when he went to his well he found that it had dried up. He sat down beside the well not knowing what to do. He desperately needed a new well but he didn’t have any money to get a new one dug. Who could help him? Suddenly he got up with the thought of the merchant. He would borrow from him and then return the money to him after the harvest. So he went to the merchant’s house but when he got there the merchant’s servant told him to come back later. The merchant had gone to the head merchant’s house for something he needed. The farmer thought that if the merchant had to go to the head merchant to get his needs met he should probably do the same. So he too set out to meet the head merchant. But when the farmer got to the head-merchant’s house he found that the head-merchant was not home. He had gone to the minister’s house for some help. So the farmer thought that if the head-merchant needed to go to the minister for help, he was better off going to him too! The farmer knocked on the minister’s door. The minister’s servant came out and informed him that the minister was not available. He needed something and had gone to see the king for it. “It is the king then who is best suited to help me too,” thought the farmer and began to make his way to the palace. The chamberlain let the farmer in but told him that he would have to wait. The king was attending to some needs of his. The farmer happily agreed. When he reached the royal chamber he found the king praying and supplicating to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) for His help and support. Finally, the king sat on his throne and asked the farmer what he could do for him. The farmer thanked him for showing him the right way to ask for help and the right One to resort to for all one’s needs. Then the farmer returned home and prayed a lot to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) to grant him His support and help. After that the farmer went to his fields and worked hard. He kept up his prayers and work and one day clouds gathered in the sky and watered his land. In a few weeks the harvest ripened. The farmer reaped it and sold it for enough money to take care of all his needs. In thankfulness to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) he committed half of his following harvest to help others in need. SubhanAllāh... Why we ask graves or some mortal ask the king of kings directly...
