Director of Research & Development Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health South America - Indaiatuba, SP, Brazil (São Paulo e Região, Brasil) Descrição da vaga Overview: Would you like to be a part of developing new and innovative products for customers? Are you skilled in the areas of chemistry or biochemistry and want to develop inspired molecular solutions for our agribusiness customers? Kemin is looking for an outstanding scientist and leader to develop, grow, and manage our agribusiness research laboratory team in Brazil. The laboratory team executes key functions for research and development, quality control, quality assurance, and customer lab support. This executive level position will be involved in making strategic decisions for the business, control research budgets, support sales with lab services, and develop innovative products for growing the business. Overall Function: The focus of this role is to combine strategic foresight in developing solution-based products as well as being nimble enough to respond quickly to an opportunity. This position acts as a lead scientist for the application of new molecules that are identified, developed, and commercialized via the Product Innovation Process (PIP). This position will conduct basic or exploratory research towards new applications or new products from bench to pilot to full manufacturing and will be responsible for using new or established methodology. This position is responsible for hands-on training of personnel, execution of science, and management of projects. New products, product improvements, and product troubleshooting are all subject to the PIP to ensure efficient utilization of resources, economical manufacturing, and successful commercial introduction. In addition, Customer Laboratory Services (CLS), Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) will report to and be managed by the R&D Director. Leadership of the CLS, QA, and QC teams will involve development of new methodologies, outstanding customer service, technical support of customers, and technical support of sales. The incumbent will be proficient at applications of chemistry, management, be very motivated to achieve projects, and combine strategic foresight in developing solutions for customers. All research and development activities must meet the Kemin Vision and Mission and achieve the Kemin values in meeting and exceeding customer expectations, while understanding our technology at the molecular level. Responsibilities: Manage the Product Innovation Process for Kemin Animal Health and Nutrition - South America research. Develop, manage, and adhere to department budgets. Develop and implement tracking programs to monitor progress of departmental goals/projects and provide analysis to the Executive management team Identify new opportunities or support the improvement and application of current products. Provide proper laboratory training and development of technical staff. Provide leadership to the CLS, QA, and QC teams. Develop strategies; establish tactics and priorities, and implement plans for successful initiation, execution, and completion of CLS, QC, and QA projects. Oversee Quality Control to assure quality testing procedures are in place and cooperate with manufacturing in the scale-up of new products. Assess and implement new technologies resulting from both in-house exploratory research and through aggressive in-licensing. Motivate, develop, and train research staff to achieve their personal goals as well as KASA structural objectives. Coordinate the development of intellectual property and the documentation of research results through internal communication systems Develop strong cooperative relationships with key academic individuals and public research funding establishments to further strengthen KASA product development and testing program. Ensure governmental regulatory compliance of novel technologies in KASA markets through close cooperation with the Regulatory Affairs function. Competências e experiências desejadas Qualifications: Basic Skills Required: The Director of Research & Development must have experience in product discovery, product development, and managing a research team. The candidate must have experience in experimental design and interpretation of research results. They must be knowledgeable of the various stages of processing chemicals to a final product. They must understand the essential knowledge of the Brazilian legislation for food and feed additives and health (ANVISA, MAPA) and the requirements for maintaining the quality and sanitary standards from the industry to market. The R&D Director will be an expert in analyzing and identifying causes of production problems related to raw materials or processing failures and conservation. They must be proficient in the laboratory for hands-on application and train staff. They must demonstrate effective communication skills in presenting research results as well as communicating strategy and tactics to staff. They must have excellent writing skills and the demonstrated ability to make timely and logical decisions that meet the needs of the business. The R&D Director must have an understanding and appreciation for the business needs of KASA and must be aggressive in supporting those needs A Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or organic chemistry is required. Experience with application of chemistry in food and/or feed ingredients is desired but not required. Minimum of 5 years broad experience in a cutting edge biological, chemical, or agricultural technology laboratory (animal agriculture, animal health, chemical industry) Experience as an effective leader, project team player, leader and motivator, and the ability to present ideas effectively and communicate well with all levels within a team environment (both domestically and internationally) Excellent verbal and written communication skills with fluency in Portuguese and English. A minimal English proficiency level of Advanced Mid as defined in the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines (mandatory). Fluent in Spanish Language (highly desirable) Ability to demonstrate creative ability in solving technology issues and in developing new products. Must be willing and capable of hands-on application and ability to effectively train staff for proper execution. A business-orientated scientific leader with a commercialization focus who is able to set priorities, delegate responsibilities, and meet timetables leading to the attainment of goals. Demonstrated project management skills, including forecasting skills, project planning, and the development of project timelines. Excellent presentation skills with experience in making presentations at conferences and industry meetings. Familiarity in meeting regulatory requirements in new product development and commercialization. Experience in dealing with challenging problems, setting strategies, and prioritizing and implementing appropriate rigorous research programs. A high degree of personal motivation, a desire to make an immediate contribution, and a sense of urgency and excitement. Knowledge of APPCC, GMP, GMP+, FAMI QS, PPHO, HACCP, and QC Certificate of Analysis for customers. Knowledge and interpretation of chemical, microbiological, and physical analyses (including but not limited to use of GC, HPLC, spectrophotometry, methodology and analysis of oxidation, microbiological analysis, NIR). Working Conditions: The Director position will be based at Kemin Animal Nutrition and Health South America office in Indaiatuba, SP, Brazil. A 6 week training is required and will be at the world-wide headquarters (Des Moines, IA, USA) prior to the relocation and start at the Indaiatuba office.
