Disappointed with the hounding of Maria Miller into resigning. The original charge (that she was claiming expenses to pay for housing for her parents) she was cleared of, and it was only through that that it was uncovered she was over claiming on her mortgage due to a change in interest rates. An apology and the repayment of that over claiming should only have been needed as by all accounts it was a genuine mistake. That said, there are instances of members of the public doing similar and facing prison time, so that clearly needs to change. So whilst I dont condone her actions, and the fact that we mere plebians would be facing jail time for a similar offence, I am extremely disappointed that we the public, and back bencher MPs, have bayed for blood until Maria fell onto the sword wed put out there for her. This was not the same as previous MPs fiddling their expenses to claim for every little thing.
