Disappointing to have to write these kind of replies to magazines - TopicsExpress

Disappointing to have to write these kind of replies to magazines offering paid editorial and makes me appreciate the integrity (yes integrity, rare isnt it?) of people like Ed Mitchell, Paul Stiles, Alan etc at Blues Matters Magazine, to say nothing of the nationals. Whilst I entirely understand the financial realities of running a published magazine, I confess Im not comfortable with the concept of buying editorial as such. I think the music business, let alone the publishing business, suffers from enough flexiblity in terms of its ethics and positioning as it is. Jos been lucky enough to receive editorial mention in places like The Daily Mirror, Mail on Sunday, Daily Mail, Daily Express and more in recent weeks and months without me resorting to such methods (or even me employing a PR) and thats the way I believe the music business and the media business such interact. Indeed, shes had many columns - pages worth indeed - of coverage in The Blues Magazine (available at WH Smiths), Country Magazine, R2 (RocknReel) Magazine, Blues Matters and more and again the editorial staff of theses magazines have never sought advertising from us at any level...and indeed any advertising (which has taken the form of a clear advertising, rather than any kind of paid-for editorial) I have taken out, has been very much after the event.
