Divergent last time – Mom saving Tris or Tris grief of Mons death? - the most moving scene in the movie for me is when Tris mom, played by Ashley Judd, saved Tris from being killed; “She saved me, she saved me,” Tris later told her dad weepingly. The parental courage to not only stand in harms way but to courageously run into harm way is the kind of man/woman/parent we intend to be. Almost daily I ask clients: “What kind of man (or woman) do you want to be.” Generally that is after I have shared some reflections about the “G-6” (the six individuals I most admire from history: Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Jesus, etc.). Who is the person that you intentionally plan for your children to see you becoming or emulating? Do they know? Do you know? Is your heart truly trying to be “that person” in the world even when no-one is watching? Why not? Of course Divergent is just a movie – not real, just a story; but it does beg a real challenge. You and I actually do get to choose the reality we live in – literally inventing it every moment of every day. So, you might as well choose a noble one, rather than the one you just “feel.” Nick
